When you move into a new home, it is exciting to imagine all the possibilities with your decor. You think about how you want to arrange the furniture, place rugs on the floor, and hang paintings on the wall. When guests visit your home, your artwork and overall decor sets a mood for the house and shows the personalities of the people who live there.

When you choose art for your home, you will want to consider the mood you want to evoke for each room. Here are some suggestions for each room of the house. Remember that your individual personality and the personalities of your family members will ultimately determine which type of art is right for each room of your house.

Living Room: The living room is often the entertaining room. It is the first room guests see when they enter your home. People typically decorate their living room more formally than any other part of the home. For this reason, contemporary or abstract art makes a great theme for the living room.

Kitchen and Dining Room: The kitchen is a place of activity, and it is also where we spend a good deal of time in our home. The kitchen and dining room can be a little less formal since it is a room we use everyday, but still important to decorate because guests will eventually make their way to the kitchen and dining room. Therefore, an elegant painting of food or wine is perfect for these rooms. Or, how about a French café scene in the dining room? You can give the impression of fine cuisine and gourmet dining with this type of art.

Family Room : The family room is a very relaxed atmosphere usually home to a couch and television. Your options are wide open in this room. You will probably want to maintain the color scheme with your furniture or area rugs. A good option for the family room or den is a set of paintings or a painting cluster, where it looks as though the artist created one large painting and then cut it into 2 or 3 pieces. It creates an interesting look and usually fits perfectly over a couch.

Bedrooms: The bedroom is a place for serenity and calm. You will want to find a piece of art with muted colors like a soft green or blue. A landscape scene or relaxing seascapes are the perfect addition to any bedroom.

Always remember to keep in mind the type of room you are buying the art for, and the wall space available for the painting. You can create any mood you wish for each room of your house with various choices in oil paintings.
