Katherine Boland was born in the United Kingdom and immigrated to Australia in 1961 where she grew up on the Gippsland Lakes in rural Victoria. She has been a professional artist since 2001 during which time she has exhibited extensively throughout Australia and overseas. Katherine has been the recipient of numerous art prizes and grants including the prestigious Heysen Art Prize for Interpretation of Place in 2009. She has been represented by a number of commercial galleries in Australia and her work is included in corporate, public and private collections in Australia, Europe, Asia and the USA. Working across the disciplines of painting, sculpture and photography Katherine seeks to distil classical interpretations of the beauty of the natural world in an organic, abstract space incorporating non-traditional media and processes. With a consistently high degree of technical proficiency her resolved but continually evolving thematic considerations and her passionate research of materials, techniques and subject exploration are given intelligent and insightful interpretation.
