Its trunk is a narrow grey-brown line, and the crown opens into broad, olive and leaf-green fronds that fan out in loose, visible strokes. The tree stands on a patch of faint, scrubby ground at the foot of the image.

Behind it, the scene fades into a pale cream and sand wash. On the right, a low stone balustrade with five turned posts holds a small clipped shrub. On the left, a classical urn on a plinth overflows with moss-green foliage. Thick, scumbled brushwork gives a soft, misty, fresco-like surface, and a small signature sits at the lower right edge.

Where it hangs

Suits a living room, bedroom or dining room with warm neutral walls, linen, rattan or timber furniture. The tall format fits a narrow wall or hallway beside a console.
