The feathers are modelled in deeper reds and brighter orange-red highlights, with the tail sweeping up and to the right. The background is flat, solid black, so the bird reads at once.

The glass is filled with amber beer under a thick white head, with cut oval facets along the lower half. Below it, yellow capital lettering reads "BIÈRE" and "St NICOLAS DE PORT". A small signature sits to the right of the glass, with fine print and a round stamp in the margin, and a printed edition note "AVRIL 1933" at the lower right. The flat colour and bold lettering are typical of French advertising lithographs of the period.

Where it hangs

Suits a kitchen, dining room or home bar, and works well in a gentleman's room where the black ground gives it weight. It pairs with dark timber, brass fittings and other vintage advertising prints.
