Beneath it sits a small orange-red face with closed, creased eyes and red lips, a white cigarette held in the mouth. Two pale beams of smoke shoot out from the nostrils, angled downward and outward.

The smoke spreads into grey and lilac swirls that curl out to both edges of the sheet. Below, the lettering is set in yellow with heavy black outlines: "CIGARETTES" in a smaller line, then "MATOSSIAN" in large capitals. The base reads "LE CAIRE" and "ÉGYPTE" in muted green. A signature sits at the top right, and the flat colour and bold type give it an early twentieth-century French advertising feel.

Where it hangs

The strong green and orange suit a gentleman's room, home office or a bar corner in the living room. It pairs well with dark timber and leather furniture or other vintage advertising prints.
