She holds a large stemmed glass of amber liquid against her chest and leans in to kiss its rim. A small bunch of golden grapes sits in her dark hair, and a mauve scarf trails behind her shoulder.

Behind the glass a huge sweep of yellow and white feathered strokes rises like a sun, which is the idea behind the pink line "..du soleil dans un verre..". Below, bold yellow capitals spell "COGNAC MONNET". A slim signature and the date 1927 sit at the lower right. The flat black ground and strong yellow give it a lively 1920s advertising feel.

Where it hangs

The black ground and bright yellow lettering suit a dining room, a home bar or a gentleman's room, where it pairs well with dark timber and brass.
