A pedimented top storey sits above a wider lower level, with a central arched doorway, columns, roundels and small statues along the roofline. Touches of soft gold wash pick out the crown-like motif at the middle and parts of the archway.

The paper is cream and heavily foxed, with dark ink splatters in the upper right and along the edges. Handwriting runs across the top, and at the bottom a looping script reads "June 1 . 1627" followed by a line beginning "for the clothworkers". Narrow framed panels with tiny figures flank the doorway, giving a worn, old-manuscript feel.

Where it hangs

Suits a home office, living room or dining room, especially above a sideboard or bookshelf with dark timber or antique pieces. The cream and black palette sits well with neutral walls.
