More About Leonardo da Vinci...

Leonardo da Vinci began his artistic training in Florence at the workshop of the sculptor Andrea Verrocchio. Here, he gained a multifaceted training in painting, sculpture, and the technical-mechanical arts.

Shortly after moving to Milan in 1482, he worked on one of his early commissions, which was the altar painting The Virgin of the Rocks (1483-1486) for the Confraternity of the Immaculate Conception. Between 1482 and 1499, da Vinci completed six paintings including The Last Supper (1495).

Upon his return to Florence, he painted his most famous artwork, the Mona Lisa. At age 65, he accepted and bore the title of First painter, architect, and engineer to the King after receiving an invitation from the French King, Francis I while he was in Rome.

Leonardo da Vinci spent his final years in France, where he did some painting, but primarily worked on scientific studies and his treatise on painting. He died in 1519 in Cloux in France.
