About Angels and Cupids
Two young children fill the square frame in close crop, cheeks touching as they share a kiss. The child on the left has deep auburn curls and a pale grey-white feathered wing rising behind the shoulder; the child on the right has light blonde ringlets tied with a thin blue ribbon, eyes lowered, arms folded across the chest. Skin tones are warm cream and blush, modelled with soft gradual shading. Behind them a pale blue sky breaks through drifting white and cream cloud, with a hint of dusky wing at the right edge.
The character is tender and quiet, worked in the smooth blended manner of nineteenth-century academic painting where edges dissolve rather than break. Light falls from the upper left, catching the curls and the rim of the wing while the lower corners sink into soft shadow.
Suits a nursery, a child's bedroom or a hallway where the square format sits neatly above a chest of drawers. The cream, gold and soft blue palette works with white walls, painted timber furniture, linen bedding and antique brass. Pairs well with other classical figure prints or a simple oval mirror.
