Bedrooms are the opposite — you see the wall lying down and in low light, so high-contrast, busy images feel loud at night. Hallways are seen in passing and at an angle, which suits strong shapes over fine detail.

For scale, a print should span roughly two-thirds the width of the sofa, bed or sideboard beneath it, with about 20 to 25cm of wall between frame and furniture. Undersized art is the most common mistake we see. Pull one or two colours from something already in the room — a rug, a cushion, timber tones — rather than matching the wall. Avoid hanging canvas above a cooktop or in a steamy, unventilated bathroom.
