Why city prints
City photographs live or die on how wide you hang them
Most skylines were shot as panoramas, and cropping one down to a square throws away the very thing that made it worth printing.
People usually choose a city because they have been there. That is a good reason, but it is worth checking which version of the city you actually remember. A harbour at dusk with orange window light is a completely different object on a wall to the same harbour shot at midday under flat cloud. One warms a room, the other cools it. Look at the dominant colour in the photograph before you look at the landmark in it.
Go wider than feels safe. A skyline at 60cm across turns into a grey band; the same image at 120 or 150cm reads as a view. Hang the horizon line at roughly eye level, about 145cm from the floor, not centred on the wall. Grouping three cities works when they share a tonal range, blues with blues, warm evenings with warm evenings. Mixing a bright daylight shot with two night scenes rarely settles.
