How big is it, really?

The two rules that always work
Interior designers use these on every job. Follow both and the painting will look like it was made for the wall.
The two-thirds rule
Above furniture, the painting should be about two-thirds to three-quarters of the furniture's width. A 2 m sofa wants a painting 130 to 150 cm wide. Anything under half the width looks lost.
Eye level
Hang so the centre of the painting sits 145 to 150 cm from the floor. Above a sofa or bed, leave 15 to 25 cm between the top of the furniture and the bottom of the frame so they read as one group.

Our sizes are the canvas. Here is what each finish adds, using a 120 x 90 cm painting as the example.
Stretched, ready to hang
Adds nothingGallery wrap on a timber stretcher. Hangs at 120 x 90 cm, exactly the size you chose.
Floating frame
Adds 2 to 3 cm each sideA slim shadow-gap frame in black, white or oak. Hangs at about 125 x 95 cm.
Ornate or classic frame
Adds 8 to 12 cm each sideA traditional moulded frame. Hangs at about 135 x 105 cm. Working to a tight space? Tell us and we confirm the finished size before framing.

Common questions
Can I order a size that is not listed?
Yes. Every painting is made to order, so custom sizes are no trouble. Call 1300 90 21 53 or use the contact form and tell us the width and height you need.
Are the sizes the canvas or the frame?
The canvas. A stretched, ready-to-hang painting arrives at exactly that size. A floating frame adds 2 to 3 cm each side and an ornate frame adds 8 to 12 cm each side.
Landscape or portrait?
Most paintings are shown in their original orientation. Above sofas, beds and consoles a landscape shape fills the width best; narrow walls and stairwells suit portrait.
Can I see a painting on a photo of my own wall?
Yes. Every painting page has a See it in your room button: upload a photo of your wall, pick the size, and the painting is placed on it to scale. From the explorer above, press See this size on your wall and it opens ready to go.
What about a gallery wall?
Use the 60 x 50 cm and 90 x 60 cm sizes, keep 5 to 8 cm between pieces, and treat the whole group as one painting when you apply the two-thirds rule.
