A child on a bike or a boy with a dog is a scene, not a brand, and a seven-year-old reads it the same way a toddler did. Oil on canvas also takes knocks and sunlight far better than paper behind glass.

Hang lower than you would in a living room. Eye level for an adult is nowhere near eye level for a five-year-old, so aim for a centre around 130cm, or sit the frame about 25cm above a bedhead or shelf. Avoid heavy black frames and high-contrast palettes in a sleeping room; soft whites, raw oak and float frames suit the lighter brushwork. For a playroom, go bigger than feels safe: 90cm wide minimum, or the painting disappears into the mess.
