The human figure, rendered in paint and gesture
Close to 200 figurative works on canvas: dancers caught mid-turn, solitary walkers, portraits in red hats, loose ink-and-wash bodies and quiet studies of posture and hands. Styles run from soft impressionist to bold modern abstraction of the figure. Made to order in the size and finish you choose, delivered free Australia-wide in 10 to 14 days.

Why figurative art
Figurative work sets the mood of a room faster than any other subject
A painted person carries posture, gaze and gesture, and the eye reads all three before it registers colour or frame.
Most people choose a figurative piece on the face and regret it on the gaze. A figure looking directly out of the canvas will hold attention every time you enter, which is right for a hallway or entry and wrong above a bed or a dining table. Downcast eyes, a turned head or a body seen from behind sit far more comfortably in rooms where you spend hours. Check the direction of the look before the palette.
Scale matters more with figures than with landscapes. A half-length portrait under about 60cm wide starts to look like a framed photograph rather than a painting, so go larger than feels safe on a main wall, roughly two thirds the width of the sofa or bed below. Leave 15 to 20cm between the frame edge and any furniture line. Hang the figure's eye level near your own, around 150cm from the floor, and avoid crowding two strong faces side by side.
