Bold animal portraits need distance and a quiet wall to read properly

The drips, splashes and loose edges that look chaotic up close resolve into a clear animal once you step back four or five metres.

People often hang these too close to where they sit. The painting is built from broken colour and gestural marks, so it needs viewing distance to pull together. Hung above a sofa you walk past rather than stare at from a metre away, it works beautifully. Originally from Virginia Beach, Virginia. I currently live in the San Francisco, Bay Area. After a fifteen year career in graphic arts, I have continued a ten-year career painting and selling my work at various galleries and at select art and wine festivals.
