About Haute Chapeau Rouge I
A square composition on a flat scarlet background shows a woman from the shoulders up, her face largely hidden beneath a wide-brimmed black hat that sweeps across the top third of the image. Only her mouth, chin and jaw are visible, the lips a bright glossy red against skin rendered in soft greys and white. One finger rests vertically against her lips in a hush gesture, the hand drawn with pale shading and clean outlines. Two long drop earrings with faceted round stones catch grey and white highlights on either side of her neck.
Her black sleeveless top echoes the solid black of the hat, framing the pale shoulders and chest in strong silhouette. The artwork has a graphic, poster-like character: flat colour blocks, limited palette and one deliberate spot of red on the lips repeating the background. It reads as glamorous and quietly theatrical rather than detailed or literal.
Suits a dressing room, walk-in robe, powder room or bedroom where a single strong colour can carry the wall. Works in a hair salon, boutique or home office with black furniture, chrome or glass. Pairs with mirrored surfaces, white walls, grey linen and a matching companion print of the same series.
