About Tango Dancers
A man and woman lean into a tango dip at the centre of the canvas. He wears dark clothing that dissolves into the shadowed background, one arm raised high to hold her hand aloft, his head bowed close to hers. Her long white gown falls in broad sweeping folds of pale grey, lilac and pink, her bare leg extended to the floor at the lower left. The backdrop burns with crimson, rust, amber and near-black, loosely worked with wide sweeping strokes and scraped edges.
In the lower left two seated silhouettes in hats watch from the dark, suggesting a crowded dance floor. The mood is heated and close, all movement and shadow rather than fine detail.
Suits a bedroom above the bedhead, a formal dining room or a lounge with dark walls and warm lighting. The crimson and charcoal background works with burgundy velvet, walnut timber, brass lamps and deep-toned rugs.
