About Gone Fishing
Eight fly-fishing lures are arranged one above the other down a tall, narrow cream panel, each tilted at a slightly different angle so the column has a loose rhythm. From the top: a teal and orange fly with a yellow bead head, a long streamer with barred tan and brown feathers, a scruffy brown nymph with a ginger hackle, a yellow and black striped bee-style fly, an olive lure with a green bead and shaggy tail, a teal and grey wing with orange fibres, a tan fly with fine red filaments, and a full red and orange feathered lure at the base.
Silver curved hooks catch the light beneath each body, and the thread wraps, barbs and individual feather barbs are drawn with fine, dry-looking detail against the off-white ground. The overall character is quiet and orderly, a collector's chart of small bright objects rather than a busy scene, with colour used sparingly and a small signature at the lower right.
Suits a narrow wall beside a door, the end of a hallway, or the space between windows in a beach house or lake shack. Works in a study, a boy's bedroom or above a hall console with timber furniture, rattan and linen. The teal and orange read well against white or soft grey walls.
