About Rings Over the Reedbed
A portrait canvas divided loosely into two zones: a pale blue-green upper field streaked with vertical runs of ochre, olive and teal, and a darker band of brown and near-black across the lower third. Small painted rings float through the middle — red, black, olive, orange and dark teal — like beads strung on the drips. Down the centre and right, open squares and rounded rectangles outlined in silver, red, teal and olive interlock in a loose chain, some overlapping, some drifting free at the lower edge.
The brushwork is thin and washy in the background, with paint allowed to run downward, while the rings and square outlines are drawn in thicker, more opaque strokes that catch the light. Overall it reads as a quiet, mid-century-flavoured abstract: linked geometric shapes suspended over a watery, reed-coloured ground, restrained in colour but playful in rhythm.
Suits a hallway, home office or bedroom wall where a tall, narrow shape works better than a wide one. The green, ochre and silver palette sits well with pale timber, linen upholstery and brushed nickel or chrome fittings, and it pairs comfortably with mid-century furniture, woven baskets and indoor plants.
