About Driftwood in the Mist
A wide grey canvas holds a single band of activity through the centre. Broken shapes in teal, rust brown, black and white cluster on the left like timber caught in shallow water, then thin out to the right where a long, dragged line sweeps across the surface. A faint vertical smudge sits in the upper right corner, echoing the denser mass opposite. Around this band the paint is smooth and pale, moving from near-white at the edges to soft mid-grey behind the marks, so the forms appear to float in haze.
The brushwork is mixed: flat scraped patches from a knife, dry-brushed streaks that fade into the grey, and a few sharp dark flicks along the lower edge. It is a quiet, restrained painting where most of the canvas is empty and the colour is concentrated in one horizontal drift.
Suits a lounge room above a low sofa, a bedroom over the bedhead, or a hallway with pale walls. The grey and teal work with white, oak, linen and brushed steel, and it sits comfortably in minimalist or coastal rooms where a bolder painting would crowd the space.
