About Outback Mirage
A wide plain fills the lower two thirds of the canvas, painted in blended sweeps of sand, apricot and pale blue-grey. Across the middle, dark charcoal and rust strokes break the surface in jagged horizontal bands, reading as either cracked ground or low ripples of water catching shadow. Behind them, soft ochre and mauve rises suggest distant dunes or hills. The horizon glows almost white, then lifts into a clear blue sky streaked with thin cloud near the top edge.
The brushwork is smooth and wet-blended through the sky and flats, with sharper loaded strokes reserved for the dark ridges and the flicks of white light along their edges. It reads as heat haze over an inland plain, calm overall but with a hard graphic line running through its centre.
Suits a lounge room or main bedroom with warm timber, linen and pale walls, where the apricot and rust tones can pick up floorboards or leather. Also works above a sideboard in a hallway.
