About Parrots on a Wire
Five birds sit in a row along a single dark wire that runs the width of the canvas. From the left: a magenta and blue parrot with a long tail, a teal and orange bird with a heavy pale beak, a white cockatoo with a raised yellow crest, a small red and green parrot, and a larger red bird with turquoise wings. The background is a soft wash of aqua, cream, peach and pale yellow, bleeding together like watercolour with no horizon or setting.
The paint is thin and fluid, with colours running into one another at the edges of the wings and tails, while the beaks and eyes are picked out in firmer strokes. It is a light, cheerful painting that reads as pattern and colour first, birds second.
Suits a long wall above a sideboard, sofa or bedhead where the horizontal line of the wire has room to run. The aqua and coral palette works with white or pale grey walls, rattan and light timber furniture, and is an easy choice for a child's room, hallway or breakfast area.
