About Beached Boat in the Dunes
A wide beach view runs across the canvas. In the middle distance a small white dinghy lies tilted on dry sand, its hull edged in rust orange with a pale canvas cover slung over the gunwale and a short mast leaning to the left. Behind it a calm aqua sea breaks in thin white lines, with two or three faint sails on the horizon and a low headland of pale cliffs to the right. The sky is soft grey-white, brushed in long horizontal strokes.
In the foreground, clumps of dune grass are flicked in with fine dry strokes in olive, tan and grey, rising against ridged sand built up in thick, dragged paint. The overall character is quiet and bleached, the kind of still, windless morning on an open beach where colour is reduced to aqua, sand and cream.
The long horizontal shape suits a sofa wall, a bed head or a hallway run. It sits well in coastal and Hamptons rooms, white or pale grey walls, and rooms with timber floors, linen upholstery, rattan and woven baskets. Pairs with soft blues, driftwood tones and simple ceramics rather than strong colour. Browse more seascape oil paintings, blue art, all hand-painted oil paintings.
