About White Doves Rising
The canvas is filled edge to edge with short, loaded strokes of cobalt and pale blue, orange, mustard yellow, charcoal and white, laid in overlapping vertical and diagonal dabs. Out of that broken field, several white shapes read as doves: one near the top centre with wings spread wide, others suggested lower down by wedge-shaped flicks of thick white paint. Paler washed areas at the left and right edges let the weave of the canvas show, so the busiest colour sits through the middle band.
The mood is energetic rather than calm, the birds only half-formed so the eye keeps finding new ones in the paint. It reads as movement and light before it reads as subject.
Suits a living room or hallway wall that needs colour against white or pale grey paint, and works over a low sideboard or a neutral linen sofa. The blues and oranges pick up rust cushions, timber furniture and brass lamps. Good in open-plan spaces where the wall is viewed from a distance.
