About Leopard in Golden Shadow
A leopard fills the canvas in landscape format, its head slightly left of centre and its body stretching away to the right along a dark horizontal branch. The whole animal is rendered in warm gold and pale ochre, with the rosettes reduced to hard black shapes rather than soft spots. The eyes are outlined in gold with dark pupils, and the muzzle, whisker pads and long whiskers are drawn as fine pale strokes against near-black shadow. The background is a flat, smoky brown broken by a paler gold panel at the lower left.
Rather than a naturalistic wildlife study, this reads as a two-tone print translated into paint: metallic golds sitting on brown, with edges left blocky and graphic. The direct stare gives it a quiet, watchful presence.
Suits a dark or moody interior: a charcoal feature wall, timber panelling, or a lounge with tan leather and brass lamps. The gold picks up warm metal fittings, amber glass and walnut furniture. Works above a sideboard, in a hallway, or in a bar area where the strong contrast reads well from a distance. Browse more animal art, gold art, all hand-painted oil paintings.
