About Seaside Colour Field
The canvas is built from wide horizontal bands that read like a low horizon over water. Deep teal and petrol blue run through the middle and lower thirds, broken by apricot and peach blocks at the edges and a pale sand tone along the top. Three or four soft white rectangles sit to the right, thickly brushed and slightly raised. Fine scratched lines cut diagonally across the left side and fall in thin vertical threads near the centre, scored back through the wet paint.
Paint is dragged and scraped rather than blended, so earlier layers of orange and grey show through the blues in patches. The overall character is quiet and weathered, closer to a faded seaside wall than a seascape, with just enough scratched line work to keep the surface active.
Works above a low sideboard or a long sofa in a living room, and suits bedrooms with white or pale grey walls. The apricot bands sit well with oak, rattan and linen; the teal picks up navy cushions or blue ceramics. A good fit for coastal and Scandinavian rooms, or a wide hallway wall.
