About A Gathering of Friends I
A square composition holds about a dozen loose flower heads floating across a white ground that has been scraped and textured so faint grey and cream streaks show through. The blooms read as poppies and tulips rendered in washy colour: mint green, coral pink, buttery yellow, pale blue and lilac, with edges that bleed outward rather than finish in a line. Thin olive and mustard stems drop from each head, some running all the way to the lower edge in thin dribbles of pigment.
The flowers sit at different heights, taller ones at the top and smaller bent heads near the base, giving the group an informal, gathered feel. The overall character is light and airy, with colour pooling in the centres of each bloom and fading to almost nothing at the outer petals.
Suits bedrooms, bathrooms, entryways and beach house living rooms where walls are white or soft grey. Works above a bedhead, a hall console or a freestanding bath. Pairs with pale timber, rattan, linen bedding and fresh flowers, and sits well beside a second floral square as a matched pair.
