About Above the Willows
A soft mass of chalky white and pale grey fills the upper half, broken by ribbons of magenta and thin veins of turquoise that sweep in from the left. Below the centre, a dark olive and green branch-like shape runs horizontally, crusted with small leafy marks and a single pale streak. The lower third settles into deep teal and sea green, with a plum-coloured wedge rising through it. The whole surface carries a heavy stippled texture, worked with a knife and stiff brush so the paint holds tiny peaks and pits.
The mood is misty and weather-like, as though a hedge or treetop is glimpsed through fog, with colour bleeding softly at every edge rather than meeting in hard lines.
Works in a bedroom above a low bedhead, in a bathroom or ensuite with pale tiles, or in a hallway where the teal can be picked up in a runner or towels. Sits well with white walls, brushed nickel, linen bedding, dusty pink cushions and pale timber furniture. Browse more the Statton Collection, abstract oil paintings, purple and pink art.
