About Abstract Cityscape IV
A square composition built from stacked rectangles that read as a city. On the right, a tall teal and white tower fills the edge with ruled horizontal bands, like rows of windows scraped back to the layer beneath. Behind it, slimmer grey-blue spires and a needle-thin antenna rise into a sky of cream and pale yellow. Across the lower half, a broad curved band arcs from left to right, its underside striped in ochre, silver-grey and soft green vertical columns that suggest supports beneath an elevated roadway.
The surface looks worked and weathered: dry scraped edges, chalky white veils over colour, and a small flash of rust-red near the centre right. It is a calm, muted piece that suggests a city rather than describing one.
Suits a lounge or dining room with grey, oatmeal or sage walls, and works well above a sideboard or a low bookshelf. The teal and ochre sit easily with timber furniture, linen upholstery and black metal lamps. In a bedroom, hang it centred above the bedhead where the square shape balances a wide headboard.
