About African Ethnic Elephant
An elephant faces forward and fills the width of the frame, its two broad ears spreading to the left and right edges. Every surface is built from dense ink linework: scallops, dots, teardrops, chevrons and small leaf shapes, coloured in teal, turquoise, coral red, orange, mustard and soft pink over charcoal outlines. The trunk curls to the right in banded segments, and two pale tusks sweep down and inward. Behind the head sits a loose grey wash, like watercolour blotted onto white paper, leaving the background otherwise plain.
The character is graphic and decorative rather than realistic. Detail is packed tight across the ears and forehead, so the piece reads as pattern from a distance and reveals hundreds of tiny marks close up.
Works in a child's room, teen bedroom or playroom, and holds its own in a hallway or dining room with white or pale grey walls. Pairs with rattan, timber and woven baskets, indigo or kilim cushions, and other line-drawn animal prints. The teal and coral picks up nicely against neutral linen furniture.
