About African Royals II
A seated figure fills the centre of the composition, set against two overlapping blocks: a crimson rectangle printed with a faint leaf pattern behind the shoulders, and a wide panel of flat gold below. The head is wrapped in a yellow and orange turban, the face and arms rendered in cool grey, and the bodice is striped in red, white and grey with a beaded green and red collar and a gold chain. One arm rests forward over the lap.
The skirt spreads wide and low, a burnt orange fan with a scalloped hem and rows of large peacock-eye motifs outlined in gold. Fine line work runs through the fabric like feather barbs, and the paper grain of the collaged blocks is visible where the red and gold sections meet. The mood is still and composed, the figure upright and unhurried, with colour doing all the talking against the plain white surround.
Works in a living room above a sideboard, in a bedroom with linen and rattan, or in a home office where a single strong colour is wanted. Pairs with terracotta pots, brass lamps, dark timber and woven baskets. Hang it as a pair with its companion print for a balanced wall.
