About African Studies I
A square collage built from stacked panels of African pattern. At the centre sits a tall vertical rectangle holding a black acacia tree in silhouette, its flat spreading canopy set against a sunset sky that shifts from deep red at the top down through amber and yellow, with a faint circular motif showing through the wash. This panel floats on a broad ochre border scuffed to look like aged gold leaf. To the left runs a black band of angular chevrons and zigzags.
The right side carries a strip of leopard rosettes in tan and black, edged by a red panel with pressed geometric marks, while a horizontal band of mottled ochre and charcoal pattern closes the lower edge. Surfaces read as printed, rubbed and layered rather than smooth, with visible speckling and worn edges where one panel meets the next. The character is warm and graphic: a quiet safari image held inside a bold, hard-edged patchwork of earth colours.
Suits living rooms and hallways with timber, rattan or leather furniture, and works above a sideboard or bedhead where the ochre reads against white or clay walls. Pairs naturally with its companion African print, woven baskets, tribal cushions and brass lamps. Also a good fit for a home office or beach house corridor.
