About African Studies II
A square composition built from stacked rectangular panels. The centre is a broad field of mottled ochre gold, framing an upright crimson panel where a bare, wide-crowned acacia tree stands in black silhouette above a dark band of scrub. Down the left side, two zebras appear in close crop, their stripes merging with a striped panel above them and a small dark red square below. Vertical pinstripes in gold and black run along the far left edge.
On the right and lower edges, black panels carry zigzag and chevron tribal motifs, while a horizontal strip along the bottom is filled with small patterned squares in gold, brown and black, like stitched cloth. Surfaces show a worn, printed-fabric texture with flecking and uneven colour through the gold. The character is warm and graphic: safari imagery reduced to flat blocks of ochre and red, balanced by hard black pattern work.
Suits a living room with tan leather, rattan or dark timber, and works over a sideboard or in a hallway that needs warmth. Good in a home office or a beach house with jute rugs and woven baskets. Pairs naturally with its companion African print, or with plain black-framed photography. Browse more orange art, red art, multi-coloured art, or read Art above the bed: what size and how high.
