About Autumn
Four slender trees stand in a row across the canvas, each with a bare, pale trunk and a rounded canopy of dense red foliage built up in small dabbed strokes. Behind them the sky burns from deep brick red at the corners to orange, then to a bright cream-gold halo low in the centre where the sun sits just above the horizon. The lower half is a broad field of dark olive and brown, with the sun's reflection running down it as a pale orange path. Long shadows stretch forward from each trunk.
The paint is smooth and blended in the sky, with the tree canopies raised in thicker, broken touches that catch the light. Symmetry in the tree spacing keeps the composition calm and graphic rather than literal, so it reads as a warm decorative landscape more than a real place.
Warm reds and olive suit a living room with cream, taupe or timber walls, or a dining room above a sideboard. It works over a leather or rust-toned sofa and sits well with brass lamps, woven rugs and dark timber furniture. The larger sizes carry a hallway or open-plan feature wall.
