A small white church with a tall, slim steeple sits at the edge of a lake, framed by a hillside of autumn trees. Maples glow bright red on both sides of the building, while yellow, orange and green foliage fills the slope behind. Dark conifers rise toward the top of the frame and fade into pale haze.
A band of low fog lies across the water and softens the shoreline into a pale, silvery strip. Below it the lake mirrors the scene in blurred vertical streaks of red, gold and green, with the church spire drawn down as a thin white line. A few bare stems poke from the water. This is a photograph with soft, diffused morning light.
