A leafy branch sweeps in from the left edge and spreads across the upper half of the picture. Its leaves are small, loose strokes in mustard, rust red, ochre, soft grey and cream, with several flecked in metallic gold leaf that catches the light. The thin branches fork and trail toward the right.
Toward the right and lower edge the leaves thin out and drift down singly, as if blown off the tree. The background is a pale, foggy cream and grey with visible brushy texture, leaving plenty of quiet space. The look is of a loosely worked painting in a warm autumn palette, with the gold adding small points of shine.
