About Azure Land II
A tall, narrow composition holds a group of slender trees rising from a low shoreline. Their thin taupe and grey-brown trunks are almost bare, with fine twiggy branches, and they carry a single broad canopy that fills the upper half of the image in soft dabs of aqua, teal, indigo and pale mint. Behind and below, a second cluster of sage-green foliage sits lower down. A wash of pale grey-blue sky shows through the gaps, and two or three small birds are suggested in dark flicks.
At the base, flat bands of pale blue water, muted green bank and a thin strip of warm apricot near the horizon settle the scene. The surface reads as soft layered colour with visible directional strokes in the canopy and smooth, blended washes in the sky and water. The mood is calm and airy rather than detailed, more an impression of a treeline at first light than a literal place.
The tall, narrow shape suits a stairwell, a hallway end wall, or the slim space beside a doorway or tall window. Its aqua and sage palette works in beach house living rooms, coastal dining rooms and home offices with white or pale grey walls, timber floors, linen upholstery and rattan or light oak furniture.
