A single basil stem rises through the right of a square frame, its leaves in pairs and getting smaller toward the top. Each leaf is a saturated green with pale veins, a slight cupped curve and faint pink-brown blushes near the edges. Small new leaves cluster at the tip, drawn with fine, careful detail.
The background is near-black, scuffed and scratched, with patches of copper and orange showing through like worn paint. A thin gold border with clipped corners runs around the edge. In the lower left, the word "Basil" is written in a looping gold script with a long underlining flourish that trails off the final letter.
