A long timber pier runs straight across the lower third of the frame, its pylons standing in shallow, glassy water. Small lamps along the deck throw star-shaped points of light, and each one leaves a soft vertical reflection on the wet sand and water below.
Above the pier, most of the picture is sky. A long exposure has dragged the clouds into pale streaks that sweep from the upper left towards the right, over deep blue and slate tones. The water echoes the same cool blue, with only a few warm orange lights glowing on the distant shore.
