A tightly cropped photograph of a pink peony in full bloom fills the whole frame. Ruffled petals fold over one another in layers, shifting from pale blush at the edges to deeper rose in the folds. The flower sits slightly left of centre, with a broad smooth petal curving across the top right.
Small flecks of yellow show deep in the centre on the left, the only warm contrast in the picture. The light is soft and even, so the petals look thin and silky with very little shadow. A second bloom blurs into the right edge, and the shallow focus leaves the whole image gentle and airy.
