A large pink peony fills the left and centre of this landscape watercolour, its petals built from overlapping washes of rose, magenta and soft lilac. A small cluster of orange and yellow stamens shows at the top of the bloom, and a second flower head sits partly hidden behind it.
Below the flower, green and teal leaves run down a thin stem, with the paint left wet enough to bleed into yellow and blush streaks on the right and along the bottom. Much of the paper is left white, so the colour feels light and open, with drips and runs still visible.
