A single wave breaks across the lower half of the frame, its crest built from thick, textured strokes of white that look scraped on with a palette knife. Streaks of foam trail down the face of the wave and spill toward the viewer, with small flecks of spray scattered over the water beyond.
Behind the wave the sea settles into broad horizontal bands of teal, aqua and deep blue, with patches of olive and sandy brown showing through the shallows. A narrow, pale blue-grey sky sits along the top edge. The medium reads as a textured painterly seascape, soft in the distance and heavy with impasto in front.
