A small blue butterfly with amber and black edged wings sits on top of a large burgundy chrysanthemum at the centre of a square composition. A second bloom fills the lower left corner, and part of a third shows at the top right. The petals are drawn in fine dark maroon outline with soft plum shading.
The background is a streaky, scraped aqua-green with patches of grey and lilac. Faint lines of looping handwriting run through the middle, with words such as "Madre" just readable. Gold leaf scrolls curl across the top left and bottom right, while a cream umbel of tiny flowers, a green leaf and a small white blossom add a pressed-botanical, antique album feel.
