A blue and black butterfly sits near the centre of a square composition, wings open, with pale blue veins running through the lower wings and small orange and red flecks along the edges. Its body and antennae are drawn finely against a soft sage and lilac background that looks scuffed and layered.
A large red poppy-like flower with a yellow centre fills the top left corner, and a deeper red peony sits in the bottom right. A purple bloom peeks in at the bottom left. Gold scrollwork curls down the left side and across the upper right. Faint cursive writing runs behind, including "Madame" and "Toulouse", giving an old letter feel.
