About Rouge
A tall abstract built from two halves. The upper portion is soft and cloudy, with blush pink, lilac and pale grey washes drifting across a white ground, broken by a dark plum and green patch on the left and a small teal smudge in the centre. From the middle of the canvas a broad curtain of hot magenta falls in vertical strokes down the right side, meeting deep indigo and violet at the lower edge. A narrow ribbon of yellow and orange runs down the centre, with thin drips of paint trailing below it.
Thinned paint has been allowed to run, so the drips read as deliberate streaks rather than brush marks, and the pale left side is almost bare in comparison. It is a bold, high-contrast piece that behaves like weather: quiet mist above, a hard rush of pink colour below.
Suits a white or pale grey wall in a living room, bedroom or entry where the magenta can carry the whole space. Works above a low timber sideboard or a linen sofa, with brass or chrome lighting and plain cushions. Larger sizes hold a stairwell wall; keep other artwork nearby minimal.
