About Her Highness
A woman faces straight out of a plain grey canvas, her head crowned by a tall wrapped turban worked in red, black and yellow curling shapes. A round medallion of yellow stitching sits at the centre of her brow, and from it hangs a dense fringe of white beaded strands that falls across her forehead. Her face is built from pink and coral bands with broad yellow patches over the cheeks and the bridge of the nose, pale green-blue eyes, and full red lips. Her shoulders carry black fabric flecked with red hearts and a yellow motif.
Every colour is laid down in raised, piped lines that ripple and loop, giving the whole surface a corded, relief-like texture. The effect is graphic and direct, a confident stare held inside a riot of pattern.
Suits an entry hall, a bedroom wall above a dresser, or a colourful lounge room with white or charcoal walls.
