About The King
A lion's head fills almost the whole canvas against a flat black ground. The face and mane are built from hard-edged blocks of colour rather than natural tones: magenta and hot pink across the left mane, cyan and cobalt through the right, with wedges of lemon yellow, orange and bright green pushing out at the ears. The muzzle is lilac and white, the nose blocked in pink and deep violet, and the chin carries a tuft of white and green. One eye is pale blue, the other green.
Brushwork is smooth and flat, with clean-cut shapes and spiky strokes fanning outward to read as fur. A small yellow signature sits in the lower right corner. The painting is loud and graphic, and the direct forward stare gives it a calm authority under all that colour.
Works in a living room with white or charcoal walls, a teenager's bedroom, a games room or a bright office reception. The black background makes it easy to hang beside timber, black metal shelving or leather seating, and it pulls colour from cushions, rugs and pop art posters nearby.
