About Pop Art Pug
A pug fills almost the whole canvas, head on and looking straight out, set against a plain white background. The face is painted as a black mask with two large amber eyes, dark pupils and a wrinkled muzzle drawn in fine white and pink lines. A yellow-green beard surrounds a bright red and yellow lower lip. Around the mask the head breaks into bands of red, turquoise, purple, lime and orange, decorated with curling white scrolls, dots, chevrons and a small white daisy on the left ear.
The right ear carries a pattern of red triangles on black, and the chest below repeats the same ribbons of colour in looser strokes. Outlines are firm and black, the colour laid in flat with crisp edges rather than blended. The character is playful and graphic, a street-art take on a familiar squashed-nose face that holds its gaze on the viewer.
Works in a child's bedroom, playroom, family room or a hallway that needs a lift, and suits vet clinics and grooming salons. The white background sits well on white or pale grey walls, and the strong reds and turquoises pair with plain timber furniture, a coloured rug or a row of smaller animal prints.
