About Pink Damsel
A young woman faces the viewer straight on, filling most of the square canvas. Her hair is a blunt bob with a heavy fringe cut just above the eyebrows, painted in bands of hot pink and pale blush with fine brush lines following the fall of each strand. The skin is rendered in cool grey and white with soft shading around the eyes, nose and collarbones, almost monochrome against the colour of the hair. Her lips are a glossy cobalt blue with white highlights. The background is a flat mint green.
The mood is calm and deadpan: wide grey eyes, a closed mouth, and no smile, which gives the picture a graphic, poster-like stillness rather than warmth.
