A single green artichoke sits in the centre of a square, cream background, drawn in the manner of a botanical plate. Its overlapping leaves shade from olive to soft sage, with darker tips and a short stem at the base. The word "Carciofo" is written across the top in brown flowing script.
The surface looks like an aged ceramic tile, with fine crackle lines, small chips and rust-brown speckles. Brown scrollwork curls down each side and beneath the stem. The corners hold faded green panels with tiny fruit and floral motifs, bordered by a worn gold and terracotta edge. The palette is warm cream, sepia and green.
